Franchises such as Kentucky fried chicken sell really cheap food. But what allows the company to sell food cheaper? What kind of quality is it? Well, chickens sold to kentucky fried chicken are all abused. Animal abuse is very common in the food industry. Chickens are fed food and hormones to increase their growth rate. But sadly the outcomes tends to be that because they grow so fast their legs can't hold their own weight so their legs break. Chickens have to endure torture before they are slaughtered, how do feel as a consumer, especially watching the clip in class, eating food that has this background of abuse?
IN class we watched a video clip that showed Kentucky FRied chicken abusing their chickens. How many fast food restaurants actually use this method? What could we do as consumers to stop such behavior? How does animal abuse affect your opinion of eating meat?In the long run how would we suffer if they cut down mass production of produce in order to treat the chickens in a better manner?

During the class discussion about the reasoning as to why they mistreat these chickens (for money) i thought it was completely counterproductive. They mistreat the animals because its cheaper to not treat them right, however, if the chicken meat ends up being diseased or bruised, they can not sell it. If they do, and someone gets sick, they have the potential of getting sued. So isn't it riskier and more costly to mistreat them then to treat them better?
ReplyDeleteI personally think the sales and customer value and perception of KFC would increase if they cleaned up the chicken farm and advertised it.
Their marketing team needs to counteract this slash on their reputation.
I haven't eaten KFC in probably 7 years, for no specific reason, but now i have a reason to not like it. I knew that old man was shady.

To me, I think animal abuse is completely repulsive. Just because they want cheap food does not mean they have to go and abuse it too. The chickens are already going to die, why do they have to be torture beforehand? It's pointless to abuse the animals when sooner or later it's going to get out, then what?
ReplyDeleteKFCs reputation has really taken a toll from all of this unwanted attention. I as a consumer am disgusted that I have eaten their chicken before. We as consumer's can stop this behavior by taking action. Stop eating their chicken and protest. Corner them until they have to change.
If they would clean up the farms and treat the animals right then they could potentially get their customers back. KFC really needs to do something concerning this or else it's just going to get worse.
I believe that animal cruelty in any form is deeply disturbing. However, this is arguably the most repulsive of them all. The sad fact is that we as customers and consumers cannot say that we are completely certain as to what we are eating when we go out to eat at a fast food restuarant, or anywhere for that matter. For every person who cares, there are just as many who don't though. It's hard to take a stand against this when we cannot even get everyone we possibly can behing it. It is sad that we live in a world where many do not care about what happens to anyone or thing, as long as it isn't them, and as long as they can get what satisfies their selfish indulgences.
ReplyDeleteSanctions should be made that prevent this from going on any longer. Every form of food suppling source should be strictly monitored. They could even shut the fanchises down until they are seen fit enough to continue. It's not like the world would stop if KFC was shut down.
This isn't an unrealistic soultion to this problem. Nothing in ths world is unrealistic. It just takes many human minds and hearts to be in the right place, but unless something is done soon we may never stop this tragedy from cotinuing.

ReplyDeleteAnimal abuse is beyond wrong in my eyes. After viewing this video in class it made me think twice about how animals are actualy mistreated and to gain what from it. The way those animals were treated was beyond cruelty and steps need to be taken in order to prevent these companies from treating these helpless animals these ways. I for one will take a stand and not suport KFC's business. Supporting them is just like givign them the ok to go ahead and keep doing what they do.
I thought the video we saw was terrible! I will never go to kfc to eat again. I can't believe an American company would willing promote such animal cruelty, in such an animal coscience society.
ReplyDeleteThis video was shocking and disturbing to me. I can't seem to understand how people can do that to any living creature. Animal cruelty in my eyes is overlooked and many people are unaware of what is really going on behind closed doors. I was so surprised at what I saw and when I told my friends about it they were also shocked. Evidence and information like the video we we watched needs to be put out everywhere for all society to see so we can make a change.
ReplyDeleteThis video was very disturbing. I can't believe they treat the chickens like that. Its a shame what greed does to our society. If more people were aware of the treatment these animals face, i believe a difference could be made
ReplyDeleteI could not believe what they did to these chickens watching this video in class. It is terrible how they treat them. Watching that makes you not want to eat at KFC anymore and i'm sure they are not the only place to mistreat their animals. I think if more people were aware of what other places do to their animals not as many people would want to eat their food.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it was very cruel for them to treat the chickens as they did. I will probably still continue to eat there only because I'm not the one treating the chickens bad they are.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the treatment of these animals is absolutely absurd. Surely, there must be another alternative to producing chicken for fast food restaurants in a more humane way. Supermarkets and other stores manage to provide chicken for their consumers without acting in such a shameful way.
ReplyDeleteI was completely appalled after I watched this video on the disturbing treatment of chickens. I cannot believe how people could possibly be so inhumane. The treatment of these animals is completely wrong and there needs to be changes to this process.
ReplyDeleteI am against ANY form of animal cruelty. Still, I dont think that this is the worst kind. I think the worst animal cruelty occurs when animals are killed for clothinf items or are caged over capacity for pet sales. KFC has a LONG way to go in correcting this problem, but at least the animals they kill go toward the nurishment of humans. I dont think that justifies their behavior, but its better than killing animals for clothes.
ReplyDeleteAs consumers, we would have to stage some serious boycots to force KFC to change their ways. Unless pressure is put on thier profits, they will continue to abuse animals.
not every food corporaion is an animal abusive when it comes to slautering there animal. i stand against the people being abusive to animals, espically when it comes to house hold animals like dog and cats. People are standing up for animals now and bring awarness to the cause. im supporting 110%.

I myself have no positive view for this video but I probably will still continue to eat KFC. I believe we should take animal rights into consideration when they prepare the animals for food however.
ReplyDeleteI thought this video was upsetting and gross. KFC is abusing their chickens and getting away with it. KFC is based on the customers, and how to make them buy the product. As consumers, we should be aware of the mistreatment of animals and support nonviolent approaches to raising animals.
ReplyDeleteI found this video to be extremely upsetting. The fact that KFC treats their chickens in such an inhumane manner is disturbing, and I cannot believe that it is permitted. I agree with Emily, that we as consumers need to be more aware of mistreatment of animals, and should take action into seeing changes. I have never been a real big fan of KFC, but after viewing this video I have chosen not to eat at KFC.
ReplyDeleteThe slaughtering of these animals is cruel and i cant believe someone would even make a video about it. Even though this video is hard to watch i will still eat KFC because it is so delicious.
ReplyDeleteI've already commented on how I felt about this video that was shown in class. Its absolutely beyong cruelty to animals. I have still have yet to eat at KFC and I will continue to take a stand and not eat at a place who would ever consider treating poor innocent and helpless animals the way that they did!
ReplyDeleteI think that animal cruelty is horrible and after watching the video in class I'm not sure if KFC is somewhere i want to be eating anymore. It is wrong to treat animals that way regardless of what the outcome is or how much money they make by doing this. People do anything possible to make more money for their companies and who knows how many companies are doing this to their animals just to produce more meat.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was horrible how KFC treats the chickens they slaughter for their products. It is completely inhuman and horrible. I was grossed out at the treatment and the living conditions they had for the chickens. Who does that? It's horrible! They are animals and shouldn't be treated like garbage. Plus imagine what that must do to the quality of the meat. Gross.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to imagine a world without fast food chicken restaurants. I understand they need to make the product as quick as possible to ship to stores for the consumer but the cruelty they are showing towards the chickens is absolutely wrong. The abuse these animals receive is completely unnecessary and must be stopped, even if it means that the production of KFC chicken is slowed down.
ReplyDeleteIts horriable to watch that video. After watching that i didnt wanna eat chicken for the rest of my life. It awful how people do that to animals. the concept of torchering animals is offial and needs to stop.

I am not surprised with the hidden secrets of major fast food industries. People don't ever care how unnaturally processed food is created and they don't want to care. I always thought that the way KFC and other fast food chains processed their food improperly. But this video provided enough evidence that events like this are not mythical, they are real. I have been turned off by seeing where the chicken comes from and have no desire to eat there anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteI think it horrible what they do the animals to make fast food. Unfortunately, I don't think there's much we can do to stop. People just love convenience and some people really like the food. So to stop going there for the fact a animal is being treated like crap. Its not happening and its really sick!
