The importance of evidence to back up your reason

It is not enough to write a paper based on reasons alone to support a claim; there must be evidence to back up your reasons. If a researcher just states reasons throughout his research and does not sight them, a careful reader is not going to just take the researchers word for it. Evidence must be proved and even when is seems unquestionable to the researcher, it should be sighted for the assurance of the reader. In order to write a good research paper, there must be evidence to support your reason, and the evidence must be properly sighted.

An application of this would be the difficulties of losing weight by just using a fad diet, because you actually need to work your body in order to see positive and lasting results. Evidence for the importance of exercise in weight lose could surely be found on any number of health websites.

  1. I believe that there should be cited resources to help show the evidence in research. You need to provide visual proof about what you are writing about. In class we read an example in the book that talks about a lawyer who is trying to prove that the man is a drug dealer. While he was in the court room he held up the physical form of the drug to provide visual evidence. But when he went to write about the evidence he could not show physical proof, he could describe and explain the evidence however. You should provide visual proof and resources to help the audience prove that the evidence is legit.

  2. I feel that citing resources is incredibly significant in the act of research. Providing concrete evidence for your reader to see helps further establish your thoughts and ideas with them. Without a solid foundation of evidence to support your work there is simply no true credibility in your work.

  3. I think the providing creditable information to support the facts in a research paper is essential. I totally agree with your statement Leslie, and finding facts to support research can be very difficult.

  4. I agree with your statement. Evidence is not only important but key when writing a research paper. It gives the paper believability and accuracy. When you write any time of paper their will always be doubtful and skeptical readers so you must back up all your claims you have made and properly cite them. You shouldn't make a claim without having enough evidence to support it.

  5. I too agree with Leslie. Without the evidence, the writer cannot persuade his/her audience. Just only stating the claims and giving reasons is not enough for them to agree with the same side of the argument. Having the actual evidence gives the reader no other choice but to agree by reading the facts of the argument, not just the opinions and thoughts of the writer.

  6. I agree with Leslie. You need evidence to back up your claim in any type of paper. In a research paper you cannot simply state a fact without tell your audience where you got it from. You need to show proof about what your topic is.

  7. I also agree with Leslie. The second paper in particular will need evidence to back up our arguments, without it the paper would be both boring and not important. This evidence of course will be cited, so that the reader can better understand the topic and further explore if necessary.

  8. I likes Leslies example of the fad diets. It takes the topic away from just paper writing and applies it into real situations. This helps me to see that this practice of the importance of evidence to back up reason can be applied in everyday life.
Without evidence, a claim or reason is just an ignorant statement. For example, as stupid as it is, no one would believe that you saw a pig fly if you did not have solid evidence of it, whether it be a picture, a news article, or other written evidence from a different/ secondary source. Going back to the topic applying to a paper, without examples, you wont have anyone who understands what your topic is about. Examples that your audience can relate to your argument and reason.

  9. Emilee Cooper says

Citing your evidence shows that it is a legit source and your proof can be trusted. Its the same for when you want to try a new product, you look at trust reviews to help your decision. Our readers look at our sources to make sure that what they ar reading is credible, trustworthy information before believing what you are telling them.

  10. I agree that you need evidence to support claims in a paper. It proves to the reader that your paper is true and you didn't make anything up. Without evidence to back up what you say, it would be hard to believe every claim that was made in a paper.

  11. I agree that you always need evidence to back up your reason. You wouldn't go to court and say that someone is guilty just because you think so.you always need evidence to support and back up what you say.

  12. If i read a paper that didn't have evidence i wouldn't take the research writer serious. Without evidence you don't know whats true and whats false. You cannot base everything on reason you always need evidence whether in a paper or in court like Mark said. You cannot prove someone is guilty without evidence. Nobody goes to jail based on what you think, you need evidence.

  13. Evidence to support your reason is an excellent way to prove to your reader that you not only know how to state an argument but also that you acknowledge that evidence is just as important. The only other thing I would make sure to write is the fact that the writer has to show the reader that he or she is actually interested in what they are writing about. Without any interest in the topic, the reader will most likely notice this and it will effect the way the reader feels about the true argument.

  14. It is important to provide evidence to back up your reasons. Without evidence your reasons are strictly just your opinion. By providing evidence the reader will have a better understanding and there is a better chance that they will agree with your argument. It is not only essential to provide evidence, and be sighted, as a writer you want to make sure that your sources are reliable. Often times you will come across information that is not true and you would not want this in your paper. Scholarly journals are always a reliable source to use while writing a research paper.

  15. I agree that evidence is very important in a person's paper. Without research and citations the paper is not valuable or believable to the audience. To make the paper worthwhile, the author should have evidence to back up the their opinions.

  16. evidence in your paper is the most important part of your paper because if you don't have that who is to say your paper isn't completely fabricated?

  17. Without showing where you recieved your evidence your readers might not believe your other information. They could simple say that all your info is false if you do not show your sources.

  18. Evidence clearly plays a large role in research writing. Without it, our papers would not be reliable or worth reading. The use of evidence makes a strong paper which then reflects on the writer.

  19. Evidence plays a huge role in not only research writing but any argument you are trying to win which is why having facts to back up what you are saying is such a key part.

  20. Evidence can always be seen in research writing with any argument and you could also explain more details in a paper. thats also a key part in everyones minds.

  21. I like how you compared evidence to working out. It is a way that alot of people will understand and still gets the point across. Very well done. Evidence is always important.

  22. I agree with Leslie, I think that in order to have facts about information you must have sources to back up that claim. Having evidence to back up your argument means that no one can question your argument so that's why it is also important.
